Personality:
Miroku is a shameless pervert. However, even he knows when to do it appropriately. For example, when royalty is present, or he is seriously trying to console Sango. Often he refrains from such urges. When he is acting on his perversion, Miroku will often either grope the woman from behind, or ask her to bear his child. If it's not one of the two, it's flattery and comforting/pleasing (in a way.) Usually this goes disturbed with Sango's interference, but even without her, most women tend to decline him. Miroku will at times try to play himself off as innocent or oblivious; such as asking ridiculous questions about his perversions or actions. He is not above trying to lie his way out of being lecherous if opportunity presents itself.
When lodging, if Miroku gets stuck in a room with only men instead of women he becomes pathetic. He will moan, groan, sigh, and sulk. Miroku is that infatuated with women that he is miserable around just guys. Miroku will easily jump to his feet to tend to a woman in any way possible. There does seem to be some boundaries with this though. He is rather bias if they aren't beautiful or if they're old. Also, after spending so much time with Sango, he is not as gun-ho as he use to be about bearing children with random women. If he can help it, Miroku will avoid fighting women when possible. His womanizing ways has left him a little soft for them. It is shown, that he will strike when necessary. For example, during the part when the village of demon women was possessed by a salamander demon, Miroku applied an exorcism sutra to their abdomen and struck them in that spot to rid them of their possession.
Miroku is the kind of guy that can casually mention the death or someone dying. Perhaps it’s because of his time, death comes so naturally and often. Either way he calmly mentioned InuYasha's potential death without so much as sounding broken about it. (If InuYasha were honestly in danger, and Miroku believed this, he would take it much harder.) This is continually shown as the series progresses as he admits and figures out the death of random by-standards.
Just because he's monk, doesn't mean he's necessarily detached from life like some seem to think. (Relating under Buddhism.) If he believes his friends are truly in danger, Miroku will go out of his way to protect them and see to it that they survive. He is especially fond of Sango. He even becomes distressed when he's under the impression Sango leaves or departs on his account. You could even say that he becomes psychotically angry when someone intentionally seeks to harm her. Miroku would kill them without a moment’s hesitation if it means he can save her. Likewise, he is willing to throw his life away to save her. Miroku is not only self-sacrificing to just her alone, but for everyone else in InuYasha's gang as well. Along with Mushin (his adoptive Guardian) and Hachi (his partner in crime) they hold a very special place in his heart.
Given his time, Miroku is a lying con artist. He has become very good at lying and manipulating people to his will. He will often exorcise demons that do not exist to get food and lodging. At times he'll accept payment or the company of women depending on the situation. This trait is actually very common among priests of his time (minus the womanizing part that is) and so it isn't far-fetched that he acts the way he does to survive.
In battle, Miroku is very level-headed about the situation as opposed to InuYasha who is more impulsive. He is the type to quickly analyze and assess the situation and then determine the right course of action. For example, if it's an 'evil' demon, eliminate it. If it's a 'kind but possessed' demon, exorcise it, or a human, knock him unconscious and so on. Most of the time he wont use of his wind tunnel when saimyosho or miasma are present.

When one see's Miroku, they see a jolly, care-free man with no worry in the world except the want for children. If you try to ask him what's wrong he will deflect away from it by mentioning something else and change the subject. The only people who seem to be aware of this hinted depression are InuYasha and the others. The cause of this depression is mostly his potential death due to his curse. The very curse that claimed both his grandfather and his father, so it comes to no surprise that Miroku himself expects to die unless Naraku is eradicated. During these depressive episodes, Miroku can be found staring at his palm during the night.
Miroku's potential death looms over him every moment of his life. Because of this he still has it in him to continue on until Naraku is defeated. He's very strong willed in a sense that if he has something to live for, he'll do everything in his power to make it so. This exterior seems to falter when presented with a difficult challenge. Because of Miroku's life lingering on the fence, he easily becomes careless. In situations such as a desperate one. The use of his wind tunnel is the first thing that comes to mind, and nothing else.
Despite his lecherous ways, Miroku is quite intelligent. He holds knowledge of many different demons, Buddhist teachings, and history. Often Miroku is shown educating the group of things they were unaware of. He's probably one of the smartest ones within the group.
Comically, or perhaps even seriously Miroku admits to being a lecher. He knows his horrible womanizing habits all too well. Miroku, however, will take offense if you call him a fake monk. This is brilliantly highlighted when InuYasha calls him a fake lecherous monk, in which Miroku retorts that admits he is a lecher, but how dare InuYasha call him a fake. With this provided example, it is made rather obvious that Miroku takes his occupation very seriously.
Due to life experiences, and the gain of three demonic friends, Miroku has become less discriminant of demons. Granted he was aware not all were bad to begin with, but he's become much more tolerable of them because of his constant exposure to them. During his travels, he has saved many humans and demons alike with his friends. In fact, Miroku is a caring person in general regardless of race, age, sex, and origin. If someone asked him for his help, he would go out of his way to aid them. Sometimes this has caused him casualties, but it's nothing he hasn't recovered from thus far. To be frank, even if he is aware of the imminent danger, he will still help. If he thinks it's too much for him (when not acting on impulse) Miroku will ask for the assistance of his friends so they may vanquish the danger together.
Abilities/Powers:
Spiritual Awareness: Miroku is very spiritually aware. He's almost sensitively aware. For example a demonic aura can slip for just a second, and Miroku would be able to pick up the aura almost immediately. Additionally, if he's been exposed to it long enough or repeatedly, he is able to recognize and tell whose demonic energy it is. This is mostly shown through Naraku and Kagura's demonic aura. His spiritual awareness is so keen, that he is sometimes even able to sense demons before InuYasha can smell them.
Sacred Sutra: Miroku can use his sacred sutra for various tasks. They can do anything from exterminating a demon, to purifying, to removing demonic aura, and even creating a barrier. His versatile use with sutra makes it very easy to dominate in battle assuming the demon's demonic powers aren't stronger than his spiritual powers. He uses them for practically everything within reason.
Shakujou: His Shakujou, another spiritually tuned item of his, its staff is made of steel metal, rather than wood. This makes it more suitable for a weapon rather than just any old staff. Also, unlike most normal shakujou monks have, Miroku's metal finial is as sharp as a blade. They're able to cut through a blade of grass when well maintained. In battle he's uses it for both defense and offense purposes. This holy staff can also exorcise demons. Miroku can allocate his spirit energy into as a type of amplifier and allow him to conjure up a barrier to deflect/ward off attacks.
Wind Tunnel: Next is the wind tunnel he bears on his right hand. It's considered a very effective and deadly attack. Anything caught in its range is consumed into a dark abyss for eternity with no word of what the other side consists of. It's capable of inhaling even the strongest of demons if they are unable to stand ground against its might. It's also used as a threat constantly to waver battles to his advantage if his opponents know about it.
Athletic: While he may not look it, Miroku is rather athletic for his occupation. He can single-handedly fight of his fair share of demons without quickly becoming exhausted. Not just that, but Miroku is also capable of keeping up with InuYasha. (In some belief it’s claimed it's because he places sutra on his feet to give him more speed.) In either case, he is very capable of getting around with or without Kirara and Sango on foot.
Miscellaneous: He has the power of insight and can see through the divine or ominous things that others emit. He can even see someone's time of death in advance.

Miroku was very wary of his situation. Where this was, it definitely wasn't Japan anymore, and he wasn't sure if he could place it from Kagome's era because he's never been there. His group of friends he was once traveling with were anywhere except for where he was.
"It appears I'm to fend for myself."
Unless he were, by some chance, able to unite with his comrades, but he couldn't sense Kagome's spiritual presence or InuYasha's demonic energy. The next approach would be to find out who was behind this and see to it that his friends are unharmed. He trailed back to the most recent memories he had before he woke here. They had just mended Sango's hiraikotsu and he consumed the poison.
The monk glanced over Haven, surveying the different features of this...town.
"There is one thing I should consider."
In his hand was the strange thing he woke up with. It was a beaten phone, but no thing existed in his era. Miroku cautiously pressed the button, and when nothing happened he continued to fiddle with it. With enough messing around, he was able to access the networking function of the phone. On it, were live feeds being made back and forth. Whether they were friend of foe, he was unable to tell. With some more button pressing, he was slowly picking up the function of whatever it was this was. Eventually Miroku was able to access the contact list. On it were many names he didn't recognize. There wasn't a single name that struck familiar, but what did it mean?
"Perhaps I should seek assistance with a local." It was risk he needed to take. With him being this far out of his element, his chance of survival was slim as it was.
